The Butler women's soccer team closed out their final non-conference home contest with a 2-1 win over Kent State. The game also doubled as senior day for six Bulldogs, who have contributed to a 37-15-9 record over the last three seasons.
"The game didn't always look like great soccer," said coach
Tari St. John. "It was physical and Kent State plays a very direct style. I was proud of the leadership on the field to keep our composure which allowed us to remain focused on the task at hand. It was a great way to celebrate our six seniors who have been so loyal and true to the women's soccer program. In many ways our ability to overcome some adversity today to achieve our goal is representative of our senior class."
How It Happened:
In a physical match that included six total yellow cards, it was only fitting that Butler's first goal came by way of a penalty kick during the 10
th minute of play.Â
Anja Savich took aim and netted her sixth goal of the year, putting the Bulldogs up 1-0.
Both teams turned up the intensity, as the Golden Flashes and the Bulldogs took turns creating opportunity and combined for 11 shots in the first period.
Just before half, Kent State would nail the equalizer with a goal off the head of Tianna Harris that was just out of reach for Bulldogs keeper,
Stephanie Rodriguez.
The score remained 1-1 through halftime and the next 35 minutes of physical play, where five yellow cards were issued, three to the Golden Flash and two to the Bulldogs.
In the 81
st minute,
Alana Wood teamed up with senior
Macy Miller to assist
Becky Dean with the game-winning goal.
Notable Stats:
- The Golden Flashes received four yellow cards and the Bulldogs were issued two in the most physical match of the year, thus far.

- Dean recorded her second goal of the season, and the first game winner of her career.
- Miller picked up her fifth assist of the season on her senior day.
- Rodriquez grabbed six saves, her second-highest game total of the season.Â
