Northview Top-Ten All-Time Lists
CARMEL, IND - The Butler track and field team wrapped up an intersquad series on Friday, Oct. 30 at the Northview Church course in Carmel, Ind. with six Bulldogs broking into the Northview course record top-ten all-time list.
"Running time trials in practice can never replace true racing against outside competition," said head coach
Matt Roe. "So for our group to run as fast as they did this month against each other speaks to their level of commitment and their level of fitness. I'm looking forward to the day we can get in real races as they will undoubtedly rise to a higher level."
The Set-Up
The men's 8k and women's 6k on Friday were the final installments of a three-race series. For the men, the three races consisted of an 8k, a 4k, and another 8k. The women's series included a 5k, a 4k, and a 6k.
For the men, the 8k course (a 2k-loop) was the same course used for the 2010 Summit League Championships hosted by IUPUI and the 2018 BIG EAST Championships hosted by Butler. The women's 6k course was also the same path as the 2010 Summit League Championships, as well as both the 2014 and 2018 BIG EAST Championships.
The men were divided into four teams of six - Team 6 Pack, Premier Acceleration, Mignon Warriors, and Canal Monsters. The women were split into two teams of six – Team Dawgs and BBTC.
The Results
Euan Makepeace, who has exhausted his collegiate cross country eligibility following an All-American finish in 2019, swept all three races on the men's side. His winning time of 24:00.1 on Friday moved him to second all-time in the Northwest 8k record book.
Four other Bulldogs moved into the all-time top-10 list, with
Simon Bedard coming in at third with a 24:10.6, newcomer
Evan Byrne sliding into sixth with a 24:17.0,
Barry Keane taking eighth with a 24:25.2 and
Clark Otte rounding out at ninth with a 24:35.6.
The women had three separate winners at all three distances.
Maddie McLain claimed the 5k title with a time of 17:14.5,
Angelina Ellis taking the 4k at 13:30.6 and
Emily Royston winning Friday's 6k with a 20:50.5.
Royston's time moved her to eighth all-time in the 6k course record list while Ellis' 6k time of 20:54.8 put her at tenth all time for the course.
Roe on the Series
"We are incredibly grateful that we have had the opportunity to train as a team during this difficult time. It has allowed our student-athletes and staff a level of normalcy that has had a tremendously positive impact on the well-being of everyone associated with our program."
The intersquad race series was part of the Bulldogs fall training program for a cross country season that has been postponed until spring of 2021.
