@ButlerUWBB Moves to 18-8 with 76-61 Win over Creighton

INDIANAPOLIS – The Bulldogs returned to the win column on Friday night by posting a 76-61 win over the visiting Creighton Bluejays. Kristen Spolyar scored a game-high 20 points and Genesis Parker chipped in with 19 to lead BU to victory.

Butler's defense forced Creighton into 18 turnovers which resulted in 27 points on the other end. Butler also cleaned up on the glass to win that category 32-24.

Genesis Parker gave Butler a lift with nine first quarter points. She hit two 3-pointers early to account for half of Butler's point total at the first media timeout. The 'Dawgs missed their first two shots of the game, but hit their next five (71%). Parker would hit one more triple before the end of the first allowing BU to end the opening 10 minutes on a 12-2 scoring run.

Butler's nine point lead after one would grow to 14 at the half. Katherine Strong ended a cold shooting streak (1-8) with a 3-pointer from the corner off a feed from Kristen Spolyar. That bucket got Butler going and the Bulldogs would end the second quarter on an 11-2 scoring run.

The Bluejays switched to a zone defense in the third. That decision opened up shots for Naira Caceres and Upe Atosu on the outside. Each student-athlete hit from behind the arc early to push the lead to 44-27. Caceres would once again earn the start, and finish with 14 points.

Atosu would spark an 8-0 scoring run later with a four-point play to give the Bulldogs a 54-31 advantage. Shae Brey would chip in and beat the buzzer, scoring from the left block and BU would enjoy a 58-40 lead heading into the fourth.

The Bluejays scored the first five points of the final quarter and would move ahead to outscore Butler 14-8 at the midway point of the frame. Spolyar pushed a 12-point lead back up to 18 with six-straight points for BU. She drove down the left side of the lane for her first points of the quarter and would follow with a jumper in front of the BU bench on the next possession. Spolyar played most of the fourth quarter with four fouls, but her made shots from the foul line would give Butler the room they needed to secure their 10th conference win of the year.

BU will return to Hinkle Fieldhouse on Sunday for Senior Day. The 2PM contest vs. Providence will mark the final home game of the regular season for Kristen Spolyar, Katherine Strong, Shae Brey, Sarah Humphrey and Ashanti Thomas.
