@ButlerUWBB to End Regular Season with Games at St. John’s and Seton Hall

INDIANAPOLIS – Butler will wrap up the 2019-20 regular season this weekend with games at St. John's and Seton Hall. Friday night's game against the Johnnies will feature a 7 PM tip on BEDN. The finale on Sunday will also stream on BEDN. Opening tip will go up at 1 PM.

- Spolyar ranks third in the BIG EAST and 36th in the NCAA with an 18.5 scoring average.
- Spolyar ranks ninth at Butler for most points recorded in a single-season (499).
- Spolyar posted a double-double vs. Seton Hall earlier this season with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
- Spolyar leads the BIG EAST and ranks fourth in the NCAA in made free throws (153).

Scouting St. John's                                                                                               
St. John's has the second-highest scoring offense in the league, averaging 72.4 points per game. Qadashah Hoppie leads the Johnnies with a 16.4 scoring average, the seventh-best mark in the BIG EAST. STJ went 3-3 during the month of February and most recently knocked off Seton Hall 77-76 at Carnesecca Arena.
 
All-Time Series                                                                                       
Butler trails St. John's in the all-time series 9-4. The first Bulldog win over the Red Storm came in 2015 at St. John's 55-50. The first win at Hinkle followed in 2016, 62-58. Butler also swept St. John's during the 2018-19 regular season.

Qadashah Hoppie matched her career-high with 24 points, draining 9-of-12 shots to lead the St. John's shooting contingent. Kristen Spolyar led Butler with 12 points, four rebounds and three assists. A decisive 19-3 third quarter saw the Red Storm's seven-point halftime advantage balloon to double figures, where it stayed for the remainder of the game.
 
Scouting Seton Hall                                                                               
The Pirates have a balanced scoring attack, led by Shadeen Samuels and her 14.0 average. Barbara Johnson and Alexis Lewis led SHU to victory at Butler over opening weekend. The duo combined for 35 of their 67 points.
 
All-Time Series                                                                                       
The all-time series favors Seton Hall 8-5. Each team won on their home floor one year ago. Butler has not won at Seton Hall since Jan. 4, 2014.

The Pirates used a 24-point fourth quarter highlighted by a go-ahead three-pointer by Barbara Johnson with 29 seconds left to win at Butler. Johnson finished with a game-high 18 points while Kristen Spolyar led the Bulldogs with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Butler led for more than 36 minutes, shooting 48 percent on the afternoon, as Seton Hall took its first lead of the game with just 1:12 left in regulation thanks to a pair of Johnson free-throws.
 
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll                                                               
Kristen Spolyar moved to fifth on the Butler all-time scoring list last weekend by scoring 20 points vs. Creighton. She added 13 points, six boards, and three steals against Providence to average 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals in the pivotal 2-0 weekend.
 
Spolyar Shoots Up All-Time Scoring List at BU                                
Spolyar ranks fifth on the BU all-time scoring list (1,499). She is now 19 points shy of fourth (Elza Purvlicis, 80-84). Spolyar's top scoring performance this season came against Detroit Mercy when she tied the BU single-game point's record with 37. The senior averages 18.5 ppg, the highest average of any Bulldog since 1992-93 (Julie VonDielingen / 20.1).

Spolyar ranks ninth all-time in field goals made (494), fourth in field goal attempts (1325), ninth in made 3-point field goals (143), sixth in 3-point attempts (499), fourth in free throws made (368), seventh in free throw attempts (490), and ninth in steals (177).
 
11 Conference Wins                                                                                            
Butler's best conference record since joining the BIG EAST came one year ago when Head Coach Kurt Godlevske guided the 'Dawgs to an 11-7 mark against conference foes. After sweeping Creighton and Providence, the 'Dawgs have once again reached 11 conference wins with two games to play before the start of the BIG EAST Tournament.
