INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler women's basketball team secured their eighth conference win of the season with a 60-42 win over the visiting Georgetown Hoyas. Three Bulldogs reached a double figure scoring total in the outcome. The victory moves Butler to 16-6 overall.
Shae Brey and
Oumou Toure each scored 12 points to lead Butler in the scoring column.
Katherine Strong would hit a fourth quarter 3-pointer to give her 11 points on the night and
Kristen Spolyar would chip in with nine. Spolyar impacted the game in multiple ways and would end the night with a career-high 14 rebounds.
Butler outscored Georgetown 10-0 over the first three minutes of the contest. The Bulldogs hit four of their first six shots and would end the first quarter with a deep, buzzer-beating 3-pointer from
Upe Atosu to own a 21-10 lead.
Taylor Barnes was the bright spot for the Hoyas in the first quarter. She scored eight of the team's first 10 points and would add a triple in the second quarter to give her 11 at the half.
Oumou Toure matched that effort with 11 points in the first frame. Toure shot 50 percent from the field (4-8) and pulled down five boards in the first 20 minutes.
The Hoyas went on a 6-0 run in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 41-30. They made six of their first 10 shots in the second half after finishing the first half with just seven total field goals. Kelava and Kovacikova picked up the scoring load along with Barnes to spark the run.
In the end, Butler would lead wire to wire by regrouping in the final stages of the third. They ended the quarter on a 9-1 scoring run to claim a 50-32 advantage heading into the fourth. Each team scored 10 points over the final 10 minutes to bring us to the final score of 60-42.
Butler returns to action on Sunday afternoon with a 3 PM tip vs. Villanova. The game will air live on FS2.
