SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall completed the regular season series sweep against Butler on Sunday by posting an 83-68 win over the Bulldogs at Walsh Gym. BU had four student-athletes reach a double-figure scoring total and trailed by just six at the half, but a strong third quarter from the Pirates would prove to be the difference as SHU posted their third-straight conference win.
Seton Hall connected on all six of their first 3-point attempts to build a lead they would never give up. The Pirates led 9-6 at the first media timeout and a 10-0 scoring run would push their advantage to 10 points at 16-6.
Butler started the game going 0-for-6 from 3-point land, but the team would heat up to score 28 points in the second quarter.
Okako Adika led the charge, scoring 15 of her team-high 18 points in the first half. Sharing the scoring load today along with Adika was
Genesis Parker with 14,
Jaia Alexander with 13 and
Tenley Dowell with 12.
BU erased a 17-point first half deficit after a Parker 3-pointer to get back within one point at 38-37. Seton Hall would respond with a run over the final three minutes of the second quarter to earn a 49-46 lead at the half.
The first five minutes of the third quarter decided the outcome with SHU scoring the first 12 points of the second half. The scoring run pushed the Pirate lead to 15 and would force BU to call a timeout. Parker and Dowell kept Butler alive in the third, but hot 3-point shooting from the home team would get Seton Hall to the finish line.
Andra Espinoza-Hunter once again led SHU with 24 points. She shot 6-for-7 from 3-point range and added a team-best eight rebounds. Desiree Elmore scored 18 points off the bench and Alexia Allesch would spot the Pirates 13 points in 18 minutes of work. As a team, Seton Hall shot 57 percent from behind the arc and 48 percent for the game.
