Results (Men's and Women's)
Led by a strong season debut from
Barry Keane, Butler's men finished third among a loaded field at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational. Keane placed tenth overall, finishing the Burke Golf Course 8k trek in a time of 23:41.7.
Florida State's Adriaan Wildschutt won the race in 23:06.7.
The Bulldogs' total of 177 came in behind No. 19 Furman and No. 25 Michigan. Butler, which was No. 10 in this week's national poll, finished ahead of host No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 15 Alabama, No. 18 Ole Miss, No. 26 Indiana, No. 28 Weber State, No. 29 Florida State, and No. 30 Purdue.
Clark Otte was the second Bulldog finisher, crossing the line in 24:07.5 to finish 30
th. He was followed closely by teammates
Pierre-Louis Detourbe (32
nd; 24:11.1) and
Simon Bedard (39
th, 24:17.2). Friday's race was also the fall debut for Detourbe and Bedard.
The fifth scorer for the Bulldogs was
James Sweeney. He took 66
th at 24:42.5.

Butler's women placed 11
th in the elite "Blue" 5k race. There were 25 teams in the field. North Carolina State, which is ranked No. 1 nationally this week, took the top spot. They were followed by New Mexico, Alabama, Washington, Minnesota, Ole Miss and Florida State in the top seven. (Six of those seven teams were nationally ranked in the Top 20 of this week's national poll.)
Butler came in ahead of nationally-ranked Illinois (No. 23), host Notre Dame (No. 19), and Indiana (No. 17) in Friday's race.
The Bulldogs were led by
Angelina Ellis in a time of 16:50.1. She placed 30
th.
Mia Beckham was just behind, crossing the line in a time of 16:57.8 to finish 44
th overall.
Kami Hankins (17:17.5) and freshman
Quinn Shanahan (17:18.3) finished 73
rd and 76
th, respectively. The fifth scorer for the Bulldogs was
Maddie McLain (17:30.1; 105
th).
Corinna Pena finished 124
th in a time of 17:36.9, while
Emily Royston (17:41.6; 132
nd) and
Camille Hines (18:22.4; 177
th) rounded out Butler's eight entries.
Alabama took the top two individual spots with Mercy Chelangat and Flomena Asekol finishing in times of 16:10.3 and 16:10.7, respectively. North Carolina State won with 38 points, placing their top five within the first 12 positions.

Conor Naughton ran in the men's open race, while
Margo Hornocker and
Katherine Olsen did the same on the women's side.
The Bulldogs return to action in two weeks at the Nuttycombe Invitational, hosted by Wisconsin. The meet is expected to host another elite field as teams prepare for their respective conference championships.
