@ButlerUMTennis Strong in Doubles Play at Viking Invitational

CLEVELAND – The Butler men's tennis team competed at the Viking Invitational hosted by Cleveland State over the weekend. Redshirt senior Michael Dickson, junior Michael Karr, junior Borja Miralles and junior Zach Trimpe represented the Bulldogs in Cleveland in both singles and doubles action.

In singles play, Dickson advanced to the second round with a bye before defeating Dayton's Erik Eliasson in straight sets and then advancing to the quarterfinals due to a walkover. Cleveland State's Maxime Mareschal-Hay beat Dickson in a tiebreaker in the quarterfinal round.

Karr beat Dayton's Joe Demarco in a tiebreaker [2-6, 6-0, 1-0(5)] Friday morning before advancing to the Round of 16 due to a withdrawal. Buffalo's Cheng Tang beat Karr in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) in his final singles match of the tournament.

After receiving a bye in the first round, Miralles beat Xavier's Caden Kammerer in a tiebreaker [6-4, 4-6, 1-0(5)] to advance to the Round of 16, but fell there to Cleveland State's Kade Mindry in a tiebreaker.

Trimpe won a match over Niagara's William Gothlin in a tiebreaker [3-6, 6-3, 1-0(6)] in the back draw after dropping his first two matches of the tournament.

In doubles action, Miralles and Trimpe teamed up to defeat Xavier's duo of Shashank Reddy and Nick Loudermilk 6-3 and then Dayton's Connor Bruce and Max Decurtins 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals, where they were bumped by Cleveland State's Mareschal-Hay and Mindry 6-4.

Dickson and Karr also advanced to the quarterfinals with wins over Niagara's Manuel Alonso and Jorge Sedeno (6-1) and Xavier's Diego Nava and Brett Winters [7-6(7)] before being bumped from the draw by Buffalo's Finn Macnamara and Daniils Snaiders.

The tournament marked the conclusion of the team's fall schedule. Information on the spring schedule will be released soon.
