Scouting Austin Peay                                                                           Â
Austin Peay is 2-1 this year with wins over Pikeville and North Alabama. Each win came on their home court. Their lone setback in 2021 was a 62-52 road loss at Evansville. Graduate student Karle Pace is the player to watch for the Governors. She is averaging 16.3 points over her first three starts of the season and also shares the team lead with 11 assists. Austin Peay was a .500 team a year ago with a 12-11 overall record. They were picked to finish fifth in the league's preseason poll, voted on by OVC head coaches and sports information directors. Transfer Yamia Johnson was the lone member of the team to earn preseason honors. She was named to the Preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference Team.
Â
All-Time Series                                                                                     Â
Butler leads the all-time series against Austin Peay 3-1. The Governors won the first-ever meeting back in 1996-97, and the Bulldogs responded winning the last three meetings.
Â
Last Meeting vs. Austin Peay                                                             Â
Butler beat Austin Peay 75-54 in the 2017-18 season opener. Assistant Coach Whitney Jennings made her Bulldog debut that day and posted a game-high 30 points on 11-of-21 shooting.
Â
Ball State Beats Butler                                                                        Â
Kendall Wingler exploded for 17 points for the Bulldogs in just her third game in a Butler uniform. The transfer from Eastern Kentucky made five three-pointers and shot 6-of-13 overall from the floor. She combined for just five points in the team's first two games.
Alex Richard had 12 points for the Bulldogs.
Trinity White and
Tenley Dowell led the team with eight rebounds apiece. The Bulldogs (0-3) were undone by 26 turnovers, which Ball State turned into 20 points. Both teams shot 39 percent from the field.
Â
Genesis Parker Out for Remainder of 2021-22 Season  Â
Butler women's basketball guard
Genesis Parker will miss the remainder of the 2021-22 season due to a knee injury that occurred during the third quarter of the season opener against #8 Indiana on Nov. 10. Parker was the top returning scorer for Butler this season. She led the team in scoring seven times last year and put up a season-best 18 points against top competition from around the conference in games vs. DePaul, Xavier and UConn.
Â
Butler From Behind the Arc                                                                Â
The Bulldogs shot just 11 3-pointers in the season opener, but have put up 29 and 30 3-point attempts over their last two games.
Emilia Sexton and
Trinity White are the only players to hit at least one 3-pointer in every game this year. BU needs to dial in from long range as the 'Dawgs are shooting just 25 percent from behind the arc.
Â
Looking For a Leader                                                                           Â
The Bulldogs have been led in scoring by a different player in every game this season. With
Genesis Parker sidelined for the rest of the season, head coach
Kurt Godlevske will push into the early portion of this year with a young team. BU started four freshmen and a sophomore against Ball State. The freshmen class accounted for 43 of Butler's 56 points.
