Â
Butler Falls to Austin Peay                                                                                Â
Butler (0-4) outscored Austin Peay 23-12 in the fourth quarter, but their comeback would fall short on Saturday afternoon allowing the Governors to escape Hinkle Fieldhouse with a 68-65 win.
Alex Richard scored a game-high 17 points in 23 minutes of playing time to lead the Bulldogs. A balanced BU scoring attack also saw
Trinity White with 10 points,
Kendall Wingler with nine and
Tenley Dowell with nine. Down three with 20 seconds left, Butler had the opportunity to tie it, but a turnover and foul sent Austin Peay to the line for the clinching free-throws.
Â
Limited Roster                                                                                     Â
Butler has 16 student-athletes on the roster, but have not had a full complement of players available thus far in the season.
Celena Taborn made her season debut against Austin Peay. Butler is still waiting for
Jamilyn Robinson,
Oumou Toure,
Rosemarie Dumont, and
Kate Tanner to suit up for the first time.
Â
Fantastic Freshmen                                                                              Â
Butler freshmen have scored 167 of the 230 Bulldog points this season (72.6%). The top four scorers on the roster and all freshmen.
Alex Richard (14.0),
Zoe Jackson (9.3) and
Trinity White (8.0) are all true freshmen while
Kendall Wingler is a redshirt freshman (7.8).
Â
Take Care of the Ball                                                                            Â
The Bulldogs are shooting 40 percent from the field over the first four games of the season, but one area the team needs to clean up is the turnover column. BU averages 21.8 turnovers per game. Every single opponent has scored at least 20 points off Butler turnovers.
Â
Long Distance                                                                         Â
The Bulldogs have increased their 3-point production in each game this year. The 'Dawgs made four triples in the season opener and came up with five the next game vs. Western Illinois. Those totals doubled over the last two games with BU burying nine 3-pointers vs. Ball State and then hitting a season-high 10 against Austin Peay.
