INDIANAPOLIS – Butler and #1 UConn took the floor for the first time at Hinkle Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon in front of a 1,721 fans. The Huskies had five players reach double figures in the contest allowing them to post a 97-68 win over the Bulldogs.
How It Happened
The Bulldogs hit 10 3-pointers in the first half to stay within striking distance of #1 UConn.
Micah Scheetz gave BU their first lead of the contest at 15-14 with her first 3-point make of the afternoon. The 'Dawgs shot well early, hitting four of their first five from long range and therefore would only trail the Huskies by one at the first media timeout.
Five different players were responsible for the first five makes from behind the arc, but UConn would end the opening 10 minutes on a 9-0 scoring run to take a 25-17 advantage. The top team in the country ended the second quarter on a scoring run as well to take a 53-39 lead into the half.
Tenley Dowell had tied the game at 29-29 with a 3-pointer with 6:52 to play, but UConn would push forward to win the second quarter 28-19.
The game started to take shape in closing half of the third quarter. Each team put five points on the board before a Butler timeout with 7:40 to play. UConn only outscored Butler by two midway through the third, but the home team would go four-plus minutes without a field goal after that and the Huskies took advantage with a 10-0 scoring run that allowed UConn to win that 10-minute stretch by nine.
BU was up on UConn 15-14 with 3:08 remaining in the fourth, but yet another scoring run, this time 7-0, would favor the Huskies and give the top team in women's basketball a 97-68 win.

14 of Butler's 22 made shots came from 3-point range against UConn. Butler ended the day 14-for-36 from behind the arc (39%).
