Butler head coach
Matt Roe and his staff have announced their recruiting class of cross country and track and field student-athletes. The talented group of newcomers includes two nationally-ranked pole vaulters as well as an elite male/female French 10,000-meter tandem arriving on the Butler campus this fall.
"We recruit annually to fit our specific program model and this year we have hit a home run with this incoming class," said Roe. "We are bringing in a group of elite students with huge upsides on the track and trail."
Â
Paul Signorelli ranked ninth nationally and Luke Walden was 15th in the pole vault among all preps in 2021. The duo is familiar with one another as both are from Ohio and competed against each other in a number of meets. Now, they will compete alongside one another in a Butler uniform.
Â
"We are ecstatic to have landed the top pole vault tandem in the NCAA this year," said Roe. "To bring in two athletes ranked inside the top 15 nationally for our program is unprecedented. I know that Paul and Luke will work diligently to take each other to new heights."
Â
Laure Bertrand and
Edouard Morin-Luzuy both arrive from France and feature strong potential at the 10,000 meters.
Â
"We feel very fortunate to sign Laure and Edouard," said Roe. "They are great students and both have run quick over longer distances with relatively modest training levels and experience. We believe they have huge aerobic capacities and the potential to be elite-level performers at the national level."
Â
Butler's cross country team opens the season Sept. 3 by hosting the Butler Twilight. The track and field season will begin indoors in December.
