The Bulldogs opened the 2021-22 season with a strong showing at the Redbird Invitational, finishing fourth among the 16-team field.
Butler's consistent play included a final round team score of 299 Monday after Sunday rounds of 296 and 299. The Bulldogs finished at 894, which is +30 on the par-72, 6,022-yard Weibring Golf Club course.
Eastern Kentucky captured the team title with a score of 861 (-3). The Colonels were followed by IUPUI (870), Northern Illinois (887) and Butler. The order of the top four teams entering Monday's play is how the tournament leaderboard finished. Butler was three shots clear of Bradley, who finished in fifth at 897.
Butler's Claire Edwards finished sixth. She shot a one-over 73 Monday after rounds of 73 and 71 Sunday. Her 54-hole total was 217, which was one-over. IUPUI's Amelie Svejda won the event at 208 (-8).
Graduate student Ally Ross fired a one-over 73 Monday to climb into a tie for 17th. She entered the round in 25th. Ross finished at 223 (+7) with a pair of 73s bookending a 77.
Freshman Katie Steinman, playing her first tournament for Butler in her hometown of Bloomington-Normal, Ill., fired rounds of even-par 72 and 76 Sunday, followed by a 79 Monday. She finished in a tie for 33rd at 227 (+11).
Katelyn Le climbed 11 spots on the leaderboard Monday with a two-over 74. She finished tied for 48th at 230 (+14). Lexy Stuckey's total of 241 (+25) placed her in a tie for 79th.
Alaina Bowie, playing as an individual, tied Steinman for 33rd at 227 (+11). Bowie's best round of the event came Monday when she shot a one-over 73.
The Bulldogs return to action Sept. 20-21 at the Ball State Invitational.
