Butler's men took a third-place finish behind Top-5 performances by
Barry Keane and
Jesse Hamlin at the Weis-Crockett Invitational in Stillwater, Okla. The meet drew an elite national field, serving as the NCAA Pre-Nationals event as the course will also host the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 19.
Mia Beckham led the Butler women with a 34
th-place finish.

THE BUTLER MEN:

Keane and Hamlin both made steady progress in the field throughout the 8,000 meters, moving into the Top 10 about a quarter of the way into the race before climbing up to second and fifth, respectively, at the finish.
Matthew Forrester and
Evan Byrne also posted Top 30 finishes, helping the Bulldogs to their third-place finish.

Keane was less than two seconds behind Duncan Hamilton of Montana State, who won the race in a time of 23:28.8.

THE TEAM STANDINGS: Butler, which is receiving votes in the most recent national coaches poll, finished third behind No. 25 Montana State and No. 29 Cal Baptist.

Butler finished ahead of both No. 21 Arkansas and No. 4 host Oklahoma State. There were 26 teams in the strong field.

Montana State took the men's title with a team score of 62, edging CBU by a single point. Butler's score of 97 was in front of fourth-place Arkansas's 116.

No. 19 Cal Baptist and No. 3 host Oklahoma State took the top two spots in the women's field. Butler's women placed 14
th. There were also 26 teams in the women's field.

THE COURSE: The Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater will also host the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships Nov. 19.
