Butler's
Thomas Brennan and Alvaro Huete made a strong run through the doubles bracket at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional, advancing all the way to the semifinals before falling Sunday.
The University of Louisville hosted the event, which began Wednesday.
Brennan and Huete started their run with an 8-6 victory over Xavier's Ryan Cahill and Kyle Totorica, and followed that with an 8-5 win over Lucas Sakamaki and Omar Elsamahy of Southern Indiana.
The Bulldogs dominated Luc Boulier and Sam Landau of Indiana by a score of 8-1 in the quarterfinals to advance to the semifinals, where the Butler duo faced off against David Mizrahi and Will Mayew of host Louisville. The matches moved to best-of-three sets beginning with the semifinals and the teams split the first two sets by matching scores of 6-4. The Louisville team ultimately posted the victory by claiming a 14-12 decision in a third-set match tiebreaker.
Butler's other three doubles teams fell in the opening round.
In singles action, Brennan posted convincing straight-set victories over Northern Kentucky's Tom Berry and Belmont's Tomas Luis to move to the Round of 32. Louisville's Etienne Donnet took that decision, 6-3, 7-6 (3).
Huete defeated Emilio Bravo of Northern Kentucky in straight sets before falling to Louisville's Matthew Fung in the Round of 64.
Freshman
Nicolas Arts won his opening match, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 7-5, over Tennessee State's Jonasz Dziopak; he then was topped by Ondrej Horak of Middle Tennessee State in the next round.
The ITA Regional served as Butler's final competition of the fall portion of the season. The spring dual match schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
