Butler's Barry Keane ran to All-American honors Saturday at the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships, leading the Bulldogs to a 21st-place team finish nationally.

Keane finished the 10k course in a time of 29:18.0, good for 17th overall.

The meet was contested in Stillwater, Okla., on the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course in 32-degree weather.

THE BULLDOG MEN: Keane was among the Top 20 at every split, running an incredibly consistent race.

Nico Young and Drew Bosley of Northern Arizona and Stanford's Charles Hicks created a 10-second cushion over the pack at the halfway point and those were the top three finishers with Hicks taking the title in a time of 28:43.6.

COACH ROE ON KEANE: "I am pleased to see Barry get a result befitting of his fitness and hard work. He ran a gutsy race as our team leader."

17. Barry Keane, 29:18.0
119. Jesse Hamlin, 30:23.7
165. Matthew Forrester, 30:44.6
167. Will Minnette, 30:45.6
182. Jack McMahon, 30:52.3
196. Edouard Morin-Luzuy, 30:59.6
216. Ryan Adkins, 31:18.6

All five of Butler's scorers came in ahead of Villanova's Haftu Strintzos, who finished 185th. Strintzos was the runner-up to Keane at the 2022 BIG EAST Championships.

MEN'S TEAM RESULTS: The Bulldogs were ranked No. 30 in this week's national poll leading into the championships. Butler's 21st-place finish includes knocking off Top 20 teams in No. 16 Virginia, No. 18 Montana State and No. 20 Arkansas. Butler also finished ahead of No. 25 Michigan, who they were just behind at last week's NCAA Great Lakes Regional, and No. 22 Georgetown, who finished ahead of the Bulldogs at the BIG EAST Championships Oct. 29.

Northern Arizona and host Oklahoma State each finished with exactly 83 points. The head-to-head tiebreaker gave NAU the national title winning three of the five finishes. BYU was third at 132 points.
Butler finished with 553 points, four points ahead of Virginia. The only conference team ahead of the Bulldogs was Villanova, who finished 19th after winning the 2022 BIG EAST title.

At the 2021 championships, Butler finished 28th after placing 13th at the 2020 event which was actually contested in the spring of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

COACH ROE ON THE MEN: "It was a strong team effort today for our men! We were on the cusp of a great one. Our main group worked together well under pressure."

THE BULLDOG WOMAN: Mia Beckham crossed the 6k line in a time of 20:37.4, finishing 101st in the national field. Beckham, competing as an individual, was part of an NCAA field that included 254 runners.

North Carolina State's Katelyn Tuohy overtook Florida's Parker Valby with about a half mile remaining to claim the NCAA individual title in a time of 19:27.7. Tuohy led the Wolfpack to the national team title with 114 points, beating out New Mexico (140) and Alabama (166).

Beckham's run concludes a tremendous 2022 season. She garnered All-Region honors with a 17th-place finish Nov. 11 in Terre Haute, completing the 6k course in a time of 20:19.8. That followed up her All-BIG EAST performance from two weeks ago when she finished eighth at the conference championships.

COACH ROE ON BECKHAM: "I am super pleased to see Mia end her Butler cross country career with arguably her best race ever. That is exactly how you script it."

COACH ROE ON THE MEET: "The NCAA Cross Country Championship is the deepest cross country race in the world. It's a privilege to be on the start line and an honor to represent Butler the way our two programs did today. It's a great day to be a Bulldog!"
