Scouting Tennessee State                                                                                 Â
The Tigers have wins over Fisk (85-61) and Trevecca Nazarene (84-80) this season, but have been defeated by Kansas City (82-70) and Chattanooga (60-31). Sophomore Gia Adams is a player to keep an eye on. Adams was the OVC Freshman of the Year and heads into the 2022-23 season on the All-OVC Preseason Team. She is averaging 18.8 points per game, scoring 20+ in her first three outings. Adams is accountable for half of Tennessee State's made 3-pointers this season (9) and is the top free throw shooter on the team (18-21). Sierra McCullough patrols the paint with a team-best 9.3 rebound average and Erica Haynes-Overton leads the club with 10 assists.Â

Butler leads the all-time series against Tennessee State 2-0. The first-ever meeting was at Tennessee State in 2006. The Bulldogs pulled out an 85-57 victory. The Tigers made the trip to Indianapolis the following season and took a 10-point loss to BU 72-62.

Hitting the road for the first time this season, Butler suffered an 84-68 setback at Ball State on Thursday night. The Bulldogs led 33-32 at the half but Ball State scored 52 points over the final 20 minutes to pull away. Butler shot .473 from the field and won the rebounding battle 32-30, but was hampered by 21 turnovers.

The Butler bench has scored at least 27 points in every contest this year. BU reserves accounted for 45 of 84 points in the opener vs. Chicago State and provided the team with 27 of their 61 points vs. IUPUI. On Thursday, the Butler bench once again outscored the opponent bench 28-20.

The Bulldogs defended the 3-point line at Ball State, which led to the Cardinals only making 26 percent of their attempts. On the year, BU is shooting 36 percent from distance and are limiting the opposition to just 29 percent shooting.

Butler is averaging 71 points per game this season. After the first three games of the 2021-22 campaign, the 'Dawgs were only scoring 55 points per game.

Kelsy Taylor is averaging 9.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game for the Bulldogs after the first week of the regular season. She needs 179 points this year to reach 1,000. Taylor will need to average 6.7 points per game this season to reach the milestone. She scored six points and had seven rebounds at Ball State. Taylor is also one of just eight active BIG EAST players to have 500+ rebounds in her career.

Parkinson Adds Two on National Signing Day                                Â
Karsyn Norman (Bedford North Lawrence) and Riley Makalusky (Hamilton Southeastern) each signed a national letter of intent last week to join the Butler women's basketball program. Prep Girls Hoops has Norman ranked as the sixth best player in the state and Makalusky is right behind her at seventh. Each player was an Indiana Junior All-Star.

Jessica Carrothers leads the team with nine assists early in the 2022-23 season. The backup point guard only has three turnovers in 56 minutes of action. Carrothers is also the team leader in steals with five.

Butler will play Sacred Heart and Binghamton in the Florida Atlantic Thanksgiving Tournament. Action in Boca Raton, Fla. begins on Friday, Nov. 25 at 2 PM with BU playing the Pioneers. The following day, BU will play the Bearcats at 2 PM.
