Scouting Chicago State                                                                        Â
The Cougars hired Andrea Williams to lead the women's basketball program on July 1. She returns two starters from last year's team that posted a 4-23 overall record. Chicago State lost their first four games of the 2021-22 season, but shocked the college basketball world with a 71-63 overtime win at Wisconsin in the Kohl Center. Quentarra Mitchell and Janiah Newell started in that contest and helped Chicago State jump out to a 21-7 lead in the first quarter. Wisconsin pulled even to force OT, but Chicago State outscored the home team 19-11 down the stretch to collect their first win of the year. The Cougars also defeated Seattle, New Mexico State and Tarleton State in WAC action. The 2022-23 Chicago State roster has players from Croatia, Spain and New Zealand. The nine remaining players all hail from a different state. Mitchell started in 26 games a year ago and averaged 8.2 points to go along with a team-best 5.2 rebounds per game. Newell jumped into the starting lineup 19 times and averaged 7.0 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest.

Austin Parkinson Appointed to Lead Butler                                   Â
Austin Parkinson takes charge for his first season as Butler head coach after a historic run at IUPUI where he was the Jaguars all-time winningest coach in program history (224 wins). During his 12 seasons at IUPUI, Parkinson posted eight 20-win seasons and earned the program's first NCAA tournament appearance by winning the 2020 Horizon League Tournament. IUPUI punched their ticket to the NCAA tournament again in 2022 as a 13-seed. The 2022 season was capped off with IUPUI having a student-athlete selected in the WNBA Draft, marking the first Jaguar to be drafted in program history.
