Bulldogs took both the BIG EAST Men's and Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors in the first recognitions of the 2022-23 season. The conference office made the announcement Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 14. The first weekly honors of the season covered competitions over the first two weekends of the indoor track season.

On the men's side, Jesse Hamlin finished with a time of 7:44.69 in the 3,000 meters at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener at Boston University. The redshirt sophomore ran against an elite field and finished in second only to Oklahoma State's Fouad Messaoudi (7:44.26). In addition to finishing second at the meet, Hamlin's time is the best in the conference and ranks second nationally. His time broke the Butler school record by seven seconds and tied for the 14th-best time in NCAA history for the event.

In women's competition, Angelina Ellis recorded a time of 9:23.53 in the 3,000 meters at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, which is a new personal-best for the graduate student. She finished in 26th amongst a field of NCAA runners and professionals. Ellis has the best time in the league by over a minute and her time currently ranks 21st in the NCAA.

Additionally to start the season, Butler's Barry Keane clocked the ninth-fastest 5,000 meters in the nation and the top time in the BIG EAST with a time of 13:21.57 in the 5,000 meters at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.
