Scouting (RV) Marquette
The Golden Eagles are 8-2 overall with a 1-1 mark in the BIG EAST. Their first signature win of the season came in the opening game of the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament. Marquette knocked off then-ranked #3 Texas 68-61. The Golden Eagles also collected a 70-66 victory over (RV) Gonzaga, but exited the Bahamas with a 66-58 setback to #20 UCLA. Conference play began with Marquette playing at Georgetown. The Hoyas couldn't slow down the Golden Eagles in the 11 AM start, which led to a 21-point Marquette victory. Just two days later, Marquette would take an 82-78 loss at Seton Hall to even out their conference record. Chloe Marotta, Jordan King and Liza Karlen are standout players on the Marquette roster. Marotta and Karlen are two of the top rebounders in the conference averaging over eight per game. Marotta is also an excellent free throw shooter, connecting on 91% of her attempts. Karlen patrols the paint and ranks second in the league in blocked shots (1.5). King is a talented guard that ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in both assists (4.2) and steals (2.3).

All-Time Series vs. Marquette
Marquette leads the all-time series against Butler 18-9. The Golden Eagles have won five-straight over the Bulldogs with every win during that stretch being by 14 points or more. Butler's last win came during the 2019-20 season at home (61-55). The last win for BU at Marquette was in 2018-19 when the Golden Eagles were ranked #11. Butler won 61-57 that night, limiting Marquette to just eight points in the fourth quarter.

The rookie guard had a game-high three steals against the Illini and did not commit a single turnover in 29 minutes of action. Over 10 games this season, Carrothers is averaging 9.3 points, 2.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game. She has started for BU in the last five games and is averaging over 20 minutes of playing time.

Update the Scouting Report
Sydney Jaynes and Jessica Carrothers each entered the Illinois game with just one made 3-pointer over the team's first nine games. Jaynes stepped behind the arc to go 3-for-5 from distance against the Fighting Illini to tie her career-best total and Carrothers was perfect, making all three of her attempts from distance.

NCAA Ranking
Butler ranks 14th in the NCAA in 3-point field goal percentage (39.0). The 'Dawgs made nine 3-pointers in their last game with five coming in the second half. Sydney Jaynes and Jessica Carrothers each hit three 3-pointers against Illinois and Tenley Dowell chipped in with two shots from behind the arc. Rachel McLimore is the top 3-point shooter on the roster with 15 makes on 33 attempts (45.5%). Anna Mortag is second on the team with 12 made 3-pointers and Shay Frederick is third with 10.

Illinois Recap
Only four Bulldogs scored against Illinois on Sunday afternoon, but the Bulldogs took the Illini down to the final possession at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Jessica Carrothers hit a pull-up jumper to get Butler within two points with 37 seconds left on the game clock. Illinois advanced the ball with a timeout, but they would not run down the shot clock and a BU stop would give the ball back to the home team with 19.7 seconds to play. Butler went for the win on the final possession, but the 3-point shot was blocked and the Illini would hang on for the 65-63 victory in their first-ever trip to Hinkle Fieldhouse.
