Three Bulldogs traveled to Boston to open their indoor track seasons and each came away with a standout performance.

Jesse Hamlin and Barry Keane posted school records that also place them among the best performances in NCAA history. Angelina Ellis set a personal-best among an elite field.

Each of the performances came at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University.

"It's a great day to be a Bulldog! We walked away with three lifetime-best, and two BIG EAST all-time indoor records, and two top 25 all-time marks in collegiate records," said Butler coach Matt Roe. "When you add the two school records at Notre Dame yesterday, our program is at an all-time high. That's where we want it to be and we are hungry for more!"

Hamlin's time of 7:44.69 Saturday in the 3,000 meters is one of the best runs in Butler history.

Hamlin's time was second only to Oklahoma State's Fouad Messaoudi (7:44.26) and ahead of Craig Engels, a former national champion in the 1,500 meters, and an elite field.

Hamlin tied Galen Rupp for the 14th-best time in the event in NCAA history and no other BIG EAST athlete has ever run a faster time. Hamlin also smashed the Butler school record by seven seconds, held by Erik Peterson (7:51.21) since 2017.

Keane broke his own school record in the 5,000 meters, crossing the line in a time of 13:21.57. That was more than four seconds faster than his time of 13:25.96 one year ago when he set the Ireland national record.

His current time is now the second fastest in Irish history.

Keane's time is the 23rd-fastest in NCAA history and broke the BIG EAST record set by Geoff Smith in 1982 (13:22.17).

Keane was part of the fastest NCAA in the event's history, placing 14th among a group that included both professionals and the best collegiates. Stanford's Ky Robinson won the event in 13:11.53.

Ellis posted a time of 9:23.53 in the 3,000 meters, setting a new personal-best. She was 26th overall in the event, which also featured an elite field.

The Bulldogs close out the 2022 portion of the schedule Friday when the team travels to Chicago for the Blue Demon Holiday Invite.
