INDIANAPOLIS – Butler and Southern Indiana will meet for the first time since the 1983-84 season on Wednesday night when the Screaming Eagles visit Hinkle Fieldhouse for a 7PM tip. Joey Lindstrom and Kelsie Kasper will have the call on FloSports.com.

Scouting Southern Indiana
The Screaming Eagles are 3-3 on the year after taking a 77-59 loss at Murray State over the weekend. Non-conference victories so far this year have come against Oakland City, Western Illinois and Bethel. Southern Indiana tasted defeat for the first time at Northern Illinois. They lost four days later as well to Bowling Green. USI averages 74.3 points per game and has a talented trio of players that average double figures in the scoring column. Meredith Raley has reached double figures in every game this season and is currently leading the team with her 15.8 scoring average. Hannah Haithcock is an inside presence scoring 14 points per game and Vanessa Shafford is a do-it-all type that averages 13.5 points, a team-best 7.8 rebounds. The sophomore guard also leads the team in assists and steals. Head Coach Rick Stein enters his 24th season at the helm of the program. 2022-23 marks the first season for USI to compete at the Division I level.
All-Time Series vs. Southern Indiana
Butler is 6-1 all-time against Southern Indiana. The two teams met for the first time during the 1979-80 season and played yearly until 1983-84. The Bulldogs won the first six meetings, but the Screaming Eagles won the last matchup 66-58. These two teams met twice in the IAIAW State Tournament with Butler winning each time; 59-43 in '79-'80 and 82-62 in '80-'81.
Last Meeting vs. Southern Indiana
The University of Southern Indiana claimed a 66-58 win over Butler in the 1983-84 season. The Bulldogs went 2-20 that year and made a coaching change before the start of 1984-85.
Another OVC Opponent
Southern Indiana joined the Ohio Valley Conference on Feb. 9, 2022 after playing in the Great Lakes Valley Conference since 1979. They were picked seventh in the OVC Preseason Poll, two spots behind Tennessee State, a team that Butler defeated 72-55 on Nov. 21.
Slow Southern Indiana Down
Southern Indiana is averaging 74.3 points per game this season. The Eagles are 441-79 all time (84.8%) when scoring at least 75 points and are 314-30 (91.3%) since 1996-97 when reaching 75 points. Butler is limiting the opposition to 62 points per game this year, while scoring 69.5. The 'Dawgs are 3-1 when scoring 70+ points, but are 0-2 on the year when they give up more than 70.

Butler has scored 20 points in a quarter 13 times this season. Two times in the first, two times in the second, three times in the third and six times in the fourth quarter.
NCAA Ranking
Butler ranks 21st in the NCAA in 3-point field goal percentage (38.6). The 'Dawgs made 11 3-pointers last week vs. BIG EAST competition. Mortag shot 44 percent to lead BU (4-9).
Floor General
Shay Frederick has 508 assists in her collegiate career, the 13th-highest total of any Division I player. Two other BIG EAST players appear in the top-ten. Lauren Park-Lane of Seton Hall ranks fifth with 544 assists and Mimi Reid of St. John's ranks 11th with 518 assists.

Rachel McLimore hit a team-high three 3-pointers vs. the Blue Demons and now is just two triples away from 100 in her career. McLimore also had five rebounds on Sunday to go over 300 career rebounds. She now needs just five steals to get to 100.
Surprising Sunday in the BIG EAST
Ranked teams had a target on their backs on Sunday in BIG EAST women's basketball as No. 3/3 UConn, No. 13/14 Creighton and No. 24/24 Marquette all suffered road losses which included the first setbacks of the year for the Huskies and Bluejays. UConn fell at No. 7/7 Notre Dame 74-60 after leading scorer Azzi Fudd was limited to just 13 minutes, Creighton lost to unbeaten (8-0) St. John's 66-62 and Marquette fell to a Seton Hall team (82-78) who has won four straight. The Red Storm are one of just 15 remaining undefeated teams in Division I. Additionally, Georgetown defeated Xavier 74-52 in a game nationally televised on FS1, -/RV DePaul edged Butler 78-72 in the Blue Demons' BIG EAST opener, and 25/RV Villanova won at Providence 79-54.
