The Butler women's lacrosse program returns 27 players from the 2020-21 roster. Of those returning, two are goalies, and two are defenders. Butler's Freshman class is comprised of three attackers, three midfielders, four defenders, and one goalie.
"I am excited about the team this year. The dawgs are looking great in practice and the team is excited to translate it to the field in games," said head coach Cecil C. Pilson.
The Newcomers
After losing seven seniors last season, Kiersten Farley, Katie DeShan, Avery Waters and Meghan Trainer look to add depth on defense.
Caroline Smith is the lone goalkeeper in the class of 2025 and comes off leading Loyola Academy to a 25-0 record in her senior season. Smith tallied nearly a thousand minutes between the pipes and is poised for an opportunity to earn minutes this season.
Returning to the Defense
With plenty of new faces, the Bulldogs will look to their upperclassmen to rely on their experience. Senior Sarah Dickinson is the anchor on defense with 33 career appearances. The captain was stellar in 2020-21, starting in all ten games she appeared in. Dickinson will bring experience and composure to a young defensive unit in 2022.
Returning between the pipes for the Bulldogs are Senior Katie McGrath and Sophomore Aleigh Monroe. McGrath has 28 career appearances in goal over the past three seasons. McGrath has a career GAA of 12.86 and a career save percentage of .396. Monroe has three appearances in a Bulldog uniform.
Season Opener
The Bulldogs will open their 2021-22 campaign with a home exhibition against UIndy on February 6. Game time is set for 12 p.m. at Varsity Field.
