Simon Bedard has been named the BIG EAST Men's Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Thursday.

The graduate student from Malestroit, France, posted a time of 7:51.52 in the 3000m race on Saturday in the David Hemery Invitational. The mark was within a half-second of breaking the Butler program record while placing him 12th in the elite field. Bedard ranks first in the BIG EAST and No. 36 in NCAA Division I in the event following last weekend's meets.

This is the third BIG EAST weekly honor for the Bulldogs this season following Barry Keane and Paul Signorelli being recognized on Dec. 14.

The Butler track and field teams are scheduled to compete at the Illini Classic on Friday and Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday in preparations for the BIG EAST Indoor Championships on Feb. 25 and 26 in Chicago.
