The Butler track and field teams are scheduled to compete in the BIG EAST Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Gately Indoor Track and Field Facility in Chicago.
The Bulldogs have a quartet of distance runners for each of the men's and women's 3000m and 5000m races. Current BIG EAST leaders
Simon Bedard in the 3000m (7:51.52) and
Barry Keane in the 5000m (13:25.96) lead a group that also consists of
Evan Byrne,
Pierre-Louis Detourbe and
Jack McMahon.
In women's distance races, both
Kami Hankins and
Maddie McLain are on the heat sheets for the 3000m and 5000m runs, while
Mia Beckham and
Morgan Werner are scheduled for the 3000m, and
Laure Bertrand and
Emily Royston will compete in the 5000m.
Niki Ezeh,
Nina Hilt and
Karmen Koch form a trio of Bulldogs who will compete in the pentathlon, which consists of 60m hurdles, 800m run, high jump, long jump and shot put events. Ezeh broke the school records in the 60m hurdles (8.43 seconds), high jump (1.71m) and long jump (5.59m) earlier this season on her way to ranking in the Top 6 in the conference in those events in addition to being No. 5 in the shot put. Koch comes into the meet with the third best score in the pentathlon this year.
A total of three Bulldogs will also compete in the men's 400m dash (
Michael Beros,
Tom Pitkin and
Jacob Uhl) and 800m run (
Liam Dennis,
Chandler McGaha and
Matthew Wigelsworth). Pitkin and Uhl are second and third in the conference in the 400m so far, with Pitkin's time of 47.26 seconds establishing a program record. Wigelsworth's best time of 1:49.96 comes in at seventh in the BIG EAST in the 800m.
In the field, Butler will also be represented by student-athletes ranking high in their respective events in the BIG EAST including in the high jump (
Drew Herman, fourth), long jump (
Zac Stanley, fourth) and shot put (
Paul Signorelli, third).
Jack Elder is entered for the heptathlon.
The Butler men's 4x400 unit will look to wrap up the meet in style on Saturday afternoon for the Bulldogs, as they set a new school record of 3:12.74 earlier this season which is currently the fastest time in the BIG EAST.
