INDIANAPOLIS – The first midweek games of the 2022 season will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. The Bulldogs will play at Northern Kentucky on Tuesday at 3 PM. BU will then host Manchester on Wednesday at 3 PM.

Scouting Northern Kentucky
The Norse are 1-5 at the start of the season, but the one win is an impressive victory at #7 Mississippi State on a Friday afternoon. Northern Kentucky topped the Bulldogs 7-6 in Starkville by limiting them to just four hits. NKU scored three in the third, one in the fifth and sixth and added two more in the seventh to come out on top.

Third baseman Manny Vorhees went 3-for-5 from the dish in the opener at Mississippi State with an RBI and two runs scored. He is batting .348 at the start of the year with five of his eight hits going for extra bases. NKU has five different players with a home run and eight different guys with a double.

On the mound, Bryson Lonsbury picked up the first save of the season for the Norse. Ben Gerl and Kyle Klingenbeck have also started in each weekend series. Klingenbeck got the win at Dudy Noble Field. He tossed six full innings and struck out five. Overall, the Norse post a 10.29 team ERA with 35 strikeouts and 41 walks over 49 innings of ball.

Scouting Manchester
The Spartans played two games last weekend at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind. They lost 15-5 to North Central and 16-5 to Hope. Zach White and Brady Perez were impressive for Manchester in their season debuts. White hit .600 with three hits in five at-bats. He had a double, two RBI and two runs scored. Perez showed his power with two home runs and a double for a team-best four RBI.

10 different players took the mound for the Spartans over the weekend. Carter Hooks and Austin Kresl each started games. Hooks struck out four and didn't walk any over three innings of action. Kresl only lasted two innings in his first start.

BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Aaron Barokas went 1-0 on the week, earning the start Sunday against Jackson State. He threw six scoreless innings, allowed just two hits and struck out seven batters, in the Bulldogs' 2-1 win.

Travis Holt hit .538 over the weekend, helping the Bulldogs pick up three victories. He recorded seven hits over 13 at-bats and led the team with four runs scored. He walked twice and was hit once to raise his on-base percentage to .625. Holt also stole three bases.

James Gargano continued to hit at the top of the BU order last weekend. With
AJ Poynter sidelined (injury),
Ryan O'Halloran jumped into the three-hole and hit .200 for the 'Dawgs.

Butler stole five bases over opening weekend, and went wild last weekend with 15 stolen bases!
Travis Holt,
Aaron Steinhart and
Scott Jones were all 3-for-3 on the base paths. Overall the 'Dawgs were perfect, getting 15 steals on 15 attempts.

Travis Holt hit .538 over the weekend to raise his batting average to .478 on the season. The BU shortstop recorded seven hits in 13-bats in Mississippi while scoring four runs. He also stole three bases to move his season total to a team-best five.

Travis Holt leads the team with a .600 on-base percentage. He has a team-high 11 hits, has walked five times and has been hit by a pitch twice.
