Final Results
Notre Dame, Ind. – Simon Bedard's 3:58.34 mile time established a new program record and highlighted a strong final day for the Butler track and field teams on Saturday at the Meyo Invitational.
The sub-four minute mile was only the third time in Butler history the feat has been accomplished, beating Rob Mullett's old school record from 2010 by more than a full second (3:59.37). The time currently ranks third in the BIG EAST and No. 30 in NCAA Division I. Bedard finished second in a field of 11 in the Meyo Mile, the flagship race of the meet.
In the women's mile race, both
Corinna Pena (4:53.15) and
Katherine Olsen (4:55.70) won their sections, while
Mia Beckham (4:53.54) finished just behind Pena in second in section one.
Morgan Werner (9:41.82),
Maddie McLain (9:45.73) and
Laure Bertrand (9:48.78) all posted personal bests in the 3000m run. Werner placed sixth in the first section, while McLain and Bertrand finished third and fourth, respectively, in the second section.
Jacob Uhl finished second in a field of 38 in the 400m dash with a time of 47.32. The time currently stands at third in the BIG EAST.
In the men's 800m,
Matthew Wigelsworth posted the second-fastest time in school history (1:49.96) to finish sixth in a field of 49.
Chandler McGaha (1:51.67) and
Trey Harris (1:52.62) had strong runs, with the mark from Harris being a personal best and finishing him first in section five.
Finally,
Evan Byrne (8:05.95) and
Pierre-Louis Detourbe (8:07.02) finished fourth and fifth in the Ryan Shay 3000m race with lifetime best times.
Niki Ezeh's 5.59m (18' 4.25") leap on Friday established a new program record in the long jump to highlight the opening day of the meet for Butler.
Bulldogs are scheduled to compete at the Husky Classic and Grand Valley State Big Meet next weekend.
