@ButlerWLacrosse Wins Home Opener vs. Detroit Mercy, 18-5

Box Score Indianapolis- The Butler women's lacrosse team (2-2) picked up a win in their home opener 18-5 over Detroit Mercy (0-5). Campbell Connors led the way with five goals and two assists for the Bulldogs.
 

How it Happened

The Dawgs came out firing in the first, putting up eight goals. The Bulldogs first goal of the day came on an own goal. Campbell Connors was dominant in the first for the Bulldogs scoring three and adding an assist. Leah Rubino picked up where she left off last game, netting two in the first, helping expand on the lead. Gabryelle Bodine added a goal and an assist, Greer Bireley added a goal and an assist, and Kayla Kielbasa added a goal as well in the first. Lindsey Schreiber had two assists, and Layla Tattersfield added an assist as well for a productive first quarter.
 
The Dawgs scored six more in the second to take a commanding 14-4 lead into the half. Bodine netted two in the second, and Rubino added one as well. Campbell Connors continued to cause problems for the Titans, netting two more in the second and adding an assist. Both Connors and Rubino had hat tricks in the first half. Schreiber also tallied a goal in the second to continue her strong performance. Bireley had two assists, and Kaley Attaway added an assist as well for the Bulldogs. 
 
The third quarter was a defensive battle, with each team scoring once in the frame. Kaley Attaway scored on an unassisted effort five minutes into the quarter. The quarter finished with the Bulldogs holding a commanding lead, 15-5.
 
The fourth quarter was dominated but the Bulldogs. Lindsey Schreiber started the scoring off for Butler four minutes in when she added her second of the day. Julia Putzi added a goal with five minutes left to tally her second of the season. First-year Grace Hensley rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs netting her first collegiate goal with two minutes left in the fourth. 
 
Aleigh Monroe made nine saves for the Bulldogs and was pivotal in today's defensive efforts.
