Butler women's lacrosse midfielder Leah Rubino was named BIG EAST Midfielder of the week as announced by the conference on Monday, March 7.
The Potomac, Md. native, was tabbed after her stellar performances against Louisville on Tuesday and Detroit Mercy on Sunday. The Bulldogs picked up the 18-5 win in their home opener Sunday, and Rubino had three goals on four shots, one groundball, one caused turnover, and five draw controls.
Rubino's dominant performance began early after she scored two goals in the first quarter off of feeds from Gabryelle Bodine and Lindsey Schreiber. Rubino's next tally came in the first minute of the second quarter.
Rubino tallied four goals, one assist, 11 draw controls, and four caused turnovers in a 1-1 week for the Bulldogs.
The Sophomore midfielder has been stellar in the early going of the 2022 campaign. In four games, Rubino has five goals, two assists, eight groundballs, ten caused turnovers, and 20 draw controls. Rubino's selection to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll is the second for the Bulldogs this season. Kaley Attaway was named BIG EAST Midfielder of the week on 2/14/22 after posting four goals in the season opener against Kent St.
The Bulldogs are back in action Wednesday, March 9, as they travel to Presbyterian for a mid-week matchup. First draw is set for 3 p.m.
