Final Results
Orlando, Fla. – The Butler men's tennis team fell just short in its BIG EAST opener, with Creighton edging the Bulldogs 4-3 on Tuesday at the USTA National Campus.
The Bulldogs made a valiant comeback after being down 3-0 with Creighton taking the doubles point and No. 4 and No. 5 singles.
Michael Dickson started the scoring for Butler with a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Creighton's Stratton Brown at No. 2 singles.
Alvaro Huete Vadillo also posted a straight sets win (6-4, 7-5) at No. 3 singles over Shin Inoue.
Drew Michael took a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 decision at No. 6 singles to knot the team score at 3-3.
In the meantime, Butler's
Thomas Brennan and Creighton's Casey Ross were locked in a tight match at No. 1 singles that would ultimately result in the deciding point. Ross took the first set 6-2, but Brennan fought back with a 6-4 win in the second. Ross came back with a 7-5 third set to take the match, however.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to travel to Jacksonville for a match with North Florida on Thursday at 2 p.m.
