INDIANAPOLIS – The Butler baseball team will open a six-game home stand on Tuesday with a 4 PM contest against the Evansville Purple Aces. Action between the in-state rivals will stream on FloSports.

The Purple Aces are similar to Butler with a 15-16 overall record that includes a 1-2 mark in conference action. The team is fresh off a MVC series against Southern Illinois and an 8-4 midweek win over Indiana at German American Bank Field at Charles Braun Stadium.

Mark Shallenberger, Brent Widder and Tanner Craig are the top hitters in the UE batting order. Shallenberger leads the team with 45 total hits (30 games) and a .385 average. Craig is the clubs home run leader with 10 and Widder is a .320 hitter with a .404 on-base percentage.

On the mound, Evansville is projected to throw LHP Donovan Schultz. A 6-2 sophomore, Schultz will make his fourth start of the season on Tuesday. He enters the matchup 0-0 on the mound with a 7.71 ERA. He has 13 strikeouts and eight walks spread out over 16.1 innings of work.

Head Coach Wes Carroll is in his 14th season at Evansville. A UE alum, Carroll was selected in the 37th round of 2001 MLB Draft. He was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies and spent five years playing minor league ball for them and the Montreal Expos / Washington Nationals.

What a Week
Aaron Steinhart hit .412 last week in games against #13 Notre Dame and Villanova. He recorded at least one hit and scored at least one run in all four games. On Tuesday against the Irish, Steinhart hit two doubles as the Bulldog designated hitter. He ended the weekend going 3-for-4 at Nova to help BU win 11-3.

The Bulldogs hit eight doubles last week to push their season total to 48. A full breakdown featured three doubles at Notre Dame, one in game one at Villanova and two each over the final two games of the weekend series.

Butler recorded a season-high 15 hits in their victory over Villanova on Sunday afternoon. That game marked the 12th time this season that BU reached double digits in the hit column.

Scoring Spree
Butler scored 11 runs on April 10 to find the win column at Villanova. So far this season, the 'Dawgs have score 10+ runs in four games. Their season-high total came early in the year at Murray State when they scored 12 runs on Feb. 20.
