@ButlerWTennis Claims 4-3 Win over BIG EAST Rival Marquette

MILWAUKEE –
The Butler women's tennis team picked up a BIG EAST Conference win with a 4-3 triumph over Marquette on Saturday at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

Norah Balthazor and Veronika Bruetting teamed up for a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, but Marquette took the doubles points with 6-3 decisions in the other two matches.

Down 2-0 in the team score, the Bulldogs began their comeback with Norah Balthazor beating Andie Wiese 6-0, 7-6 at No. 3 singles. Veronika Bruetting kept the momentum going with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles, and Delaney Schurhamer beat Emilija Kojcic 6-3, 7-6 in the second spot of the lineup to give Butler three team points.

Tied at 3-3 in the team score, the No. 4 singles match would ultimately decide the winner. Katie Beavin fought off Elisabeth Desmarais 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 to clinch the match for the Bulldogs.

This was the Bulldogs' first win of the conference season, finishing with a 1-2 record in BIG EAST play and 8-13 overall. Butler ends its regular season on a high note heading into the BIG EAST Tournament in Cayce, S.C., beginning on Thursday.
