Final Results
Cayce, S.C. – The Butler men's tennis team took down Georgetown 4-3 on Friday in the quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center.
The Bulldogs started off strong, taking an important doubles point with wins in the top two spots.
Thomas Brennan and
Alvaro Huete Vadillo beat their opponents 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, then the duo of
Michael Dickson and
Patrick Joss clinched the point for Butler with a 7-6(6) decision at No. 2.
In singles play, Brennan and Dickson took care of their opponents in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Brennan won 6-2, 6-2 against Georgetown's Kieran Foster, while Dickson beat Andrew Rozanov 6-1, 6-3. The two points gave Butler a 3-1 edge in the team score.
The three remaining matches took more than two hours each to complete.
Patrick Joss and
Michael Karr took the first sets from their opponents at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, respectively, but were unable to finish them off.
That left Huete against Jake Fellows at No. 3 singles. The marathon match lasted 2 hours 35 minutes with Huete being victorious 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. The win is Huete's 13
th in a row in singles play.
The Bulldogs will face No. 1 seed St. John's, who defeated Villanova 5-0, on Saturday at 9 a.m. in the semifinals.
