Top Seed St. John's Beats @ButlerUMTennis 4-1 in BIG EAST Semifinals

The Butler men's tennis team fell 4-1 to top-seeded St. John's in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Tournament on Saturday at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center.

The Bulldogs led in doubles play after the duo of Michael Dickson and Patrick Joss won their match 6-2 in the second spot of the lineup, but the Red Storm won in a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles to clinch the point.

Alvaro Huete Vadillo got on the board first for Butler with a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 3 singles to tie the team score at 1-1. Huete ended the season on a 14-match winning streak in singles play.

St. John's won in straight sets at Nos. 4-6 singles to clinch the match. Butler's Thomas Brennan was leading his opponent 6-2, 4-3 at No. 1 singles when the match had been decided.

The Bulldogs conclude the season with a 13-11 record, including 4-4 against BIG EAST opponents.
