St. John’s Storms Back for 8-7 Win vs. @ButlerUBaseball

QUEENS – The Bulldogs enjoyed a 6-1 lead over St. John's after six innings, but the Johnnies would score five runs in the seventh and match BU with a solo score in the ninth to push the game into extra innings. In the 10th, an RBI single to right would end the game and send the Johnnies to the win column.

The turning point in the game came in the seventh inning with STJ scoring five runs off just three hits to tie the game at 6-6. Despite giving up the lead, Butler looked to be in control of their destiny in the ninth after a full-count, solo home run from Travis Holt. With drama building at Jack Kaiser Stadium, David Glancy would stand tall and hit a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to push the game into extras.

BU went quietly in the 10th, and then took the field to record two quick outs. Cirelli singled up the middle to extend the game and then a walk would move him into scoring position. Bianchi would pinch-run for Cirelli with Wetterau at the plate and the St. John's catcher would record his first hit of the day to win the game for the Red Storm.

Paul Orbon had the best day for St. John's going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Glancy had the homer, a team-best three RBI and two runs scored. For Butler, James Gargano had a three-RBI triple and Aaron Steinhart led the way with two total hits.

Cory Bosecker got the start for the Bulldogs and tossed six full innings before handing the ball off to Lukas Galdoni (2-1). Bosecker struck out six, but allowed four earned runs off five hits. Galdoni struck out three and only walked one. Only two of the four runs to come around on him were earned.

St. John's got 4.2 innings from starter Brandon Backman. The win would fall to Tim Cunningham (1-1). Cunningham was great down the stretch striking out five and limiting BU to just one run off one hit.

The final game of the three game series has been moved up to a 12 PM start.
