Barry Keane's school record in the 5000m run Friday night at the Payton Jordan Invitational highlighted the weekend for the Butler track and field teams.
Keane clocked in at 13:26.29 to come in third in an elite 5k field in Stanford, Calif., coming with a second of winning the race. The time breaks the old school record by more than four seconds which
Euan Makepeace set in 2021 (13:30.55). Keane also holds the Butler indoor record in the 5000m with a time of 13:25.96 set during this past indoor season.
Another Bulldog competing solo at a meet was
Evan Byrne making his outdoor season debut at the Drake Relays on Thursday. Byrne finished 17
th in the top section of the 5k with a 14:30.82 time.
The majority of Butler student-athletes competed at the Sycamore Open in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday. Both the men and women came in third in the team rankings at the meet.
The Butler women's track and field team stood atop the podium in three events, including the 400m dash (
Reagan Kelly, 1:00.52), 1500m run (
Morgan Werner, 4:40.51) and 100m hurdles (
Rebecca Coan, 14.19). Werner outran 30 other competitors, while
Erin Haugh finished second in the 400m (1:01.33), and
McKenzie Greene place third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.90 seconds.
Other Bulldogs with podium finishes in their events included Coan placing second in the shot put with a mark of 11.95m, and
Karmen Koch (35.37m) and Coan (34.46m) finishing second and third out of a field of 13 in the javelin throw.
For the men's competitions,
Carter Schorr paced the field of 16 in the 3000m steeplechase to win the race in a time of 9:39.17.
Jacob Uhl (21.46 seconds) and
Isaac Kane (21.52) placed second and fourth, respectively, in the 200m dash out of a field of 22.
Andrew Kendrick finished second in the 1500m run, clocking in at 4:02.02 in the field of 23.
In field events,
Paul Signorelli placed third in the pole vault with a height of 4.60m, while
Joey Gareis finished third in the triple jump with a 13.57m leap.
The Bulldogs will travel to Bloomington, Ind., once again this Friday for the Billy Hayes Invitational.
