Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse | | John Flannery

@ButlerWLacrosse Falls to Villanova 12-10

Indianapolis - The Butler women's lacrosse team (6-9, 0-5 BIG EAST) fell on Saturday to Villanova (5-11, 1-4 BIG EAST) 12-10.

How it Happened:

The Wildcats got on the board first just over a minute into the game on a goal from Sydney Pappas. Holly Hall answered minutes later on an unassisted effort. Villanova scored three in a row before Campbell Connors scored her first of the day on a feed from Ellie Eisenklam. Gabryelle Bodine scored with a minute and a half remaining in the quarter to make it a one-score game heading into the second quarter.

In similar fashion, Villanova scored three goals in the first seven minutes of the quarter before the Bulldogs had a run of their own. Bodine got things rolling in the second on a feed from Greer Bireley. Minutes Later, Bireley took one herself and found the back of the net on an unassisted effort. A minute later, Connors slotted one home on another assist from Bireley. Villanova scored again with forty seconds left in the quarter. Ellie Eisenklam had a spectacular run and finish with just under twenty seconds left in the second to make it 8-7 before halftime.

The second half was a defensive battle and hard-fought on both ends of the field. In the third, KK Callaghan got the Bulldogs on the board first roughly ten minutes into the half. That was the lone goal for the Bulldogs in the third. Villanova scored two goals in the final two and a half minutes of the quarter.

Each team scored two goals in the fourth, but the Bulldogs were never able to even things up. Greer Bireley scored the first for the Dawgs on an unassisted effort nearly four minutes into the quarter. Villanova's Caroline Curnal answered less than a minute later to move the Wildcat lead back to two goals. With seven and a half minutes left, Callaghan scored again for the Bulldogs on a feed from Kayla Kielbasa. The Bulldogs triumphant comeback unfortunately fell short and the Dawgs fell to the Wildcats 12-10.
