Final Results
CINCINNATI – The Butler men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to BIG EAST rival Xavier at the Eastern Hills Indoor Tennis Club on Friday afternoon.
The doubles duo of
Michael Dickson and
Patrick Joss beat their opponents 6-3 in the second spot of the lineup, but Xavier won the other matches to clinch the doubles point.
In singles play, the Bulldogs got off to a fast start with Dickson (6-2, 6-1) and Joss (6-3, 6-1) posting straight set decisions at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively to give Butler a 2-1 lead in the team score.
Later at No. 3 singles,
Alvaro Huete Vadillo outlasted Xavier's Ryan Cahill 5-7, 6-1, 7-5 to draw the team tally even at 3-3. The match was decided at the top singles spot where the Diego Nava, who's ranked the No. 61 singles player in the ITA Division I rankings, fought off
Thomas Brennan for a 7-6(7-3), 6-7(7-4), 6-4 clinching win.
The Bulldogs will continue BIG EAST play on Sunday with a match at DePaul.
