Jesse Hamlin was named the BIG EAST Men's Track Athlete of the Week after a record breaking 800m race, the conference office announced Tuesday.

The junior from Fort Wayne, Ind., posted a time of 1:48.32 to win the race at the Billy Hayes Invitational last Friday and set a new program record in the event. Kris Gauson held the old program standard with a 1:48.56 race from 2009.

Hamlin established another school record earlier in the season with a time of 3:38.85 in the 1500m.

This is Butler's fourth BIG EAST weekly track award of the school year after Barry Keane was named the Track Athlete of the Week three times previously (one indoor, two outdoor).
