Ryan Pepiot - Dodgers

@ButlerUBaseball's Ryan Pepiot Set to Make MLB Debut Wednesday

| By:

Former Butler standout Ryan Pepiot, the Dodgers' No. 6-ranked prospect, is set to make his Major League debut on Wednesday (May 11) against the Pirates. Manager Dave Roberts said Pepiot will get the start on the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 12:35 p.m. ET in Pittsburgh.

The right-hander from Westfield, Ind., has started six games for the AAA Oklahoma City Dodgers so far this season. He is 2-0 with a 2.05 ERA.

The Dodgers selected Pepiot in the third round of the 2019 MLB Draft, making him the highest pick in Butler program history. Pepiot broke two Butler records during the 2019 season. He struck out 126 batters in 78 innings of action to set the new single-season strikeout record. The three-year weekend starter also set the career strikeout record at Butler with 306.

The Dodgers are in the midst of playing 31 games in 30 days. Pepiot could also be in line to start on May 17 when the Dodgers host a doubleheader against the D-backs at Dodger Stadium. That decision, however, won't be made until next week.

From MLB.com: "Pepiot owns the best changeup in the Minors, earning top-of-the-scale 80 grades from some evaluators for a low-80s weapon that fades before dropping at the plate. He has improved his fastball significantly since turning pro, gaining about 3 mph to sit at 94-96 and touch 98 while boosting its induced vertical break and carry up in the zone. He has added sweep and power to his slider, which now parks in the upper 80s and moves in the opposite direction from his changeup, and he also can turn it into more of a cutter."
