@ButlerUBaseball to Face Mastodons in Midweek Action

| By:
INDIANAPOLIS – Butler's final road game of the season will be played on Tuesday, May 17 when the Bulldogs travel to Fort Wayne to play the Mastodons. First pitch at Mastodon Field is set for 3 PM.

Probable Starters
RHP John MacCauley vs. RHP Bryce Martens

Scouting Purdue Fort Wayne
The Mastodons are 16-33 overall with a 13-15 record in the Horizon League. Over the weekend, PFW split a series in Dayton against Wright State. They won game one of the doubleheader 5-4, but fell in game two 17-3. Tuesday will be the last and just 16th home game of the season for Purdue Fort Wayne. The Mastodons are 5-11 at home and 11-22 away.

Head Coach Doug Schreiber is in his third season at Purdue Fort Wayne. Prior to joining the Mastodons, Schreiber spent 17 seasons as the head coach at Purdue. He was the Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2012.

Cade Fitzpatrick, Jack Lang and Ben Higgins are three of the top players in the PFW batting order. Lang leads the club with 57 total hits. He has 11 doubles and 10 home runs for 29 RBI. Higgins shares the team home run lead with Lang (10), and Fitzpatrick holds the best average on the team at .340.

Last Series vs. PFW
Purdue Fort Wayne and Butler played opening weekend in 2021 with the Mastodons winning the series 2-1. Each PFW victory came by three runs. BU won game two 2-0.

Last Week
Garret Gray hit .429 last week and currently leads the team having reached base safely in six-straight games. Travis Holt and Aaron Steinhart also stood out last week. Holt had a team-high six hits with three of the six going for extra bases. Steinhart hit a go-ahead grand slam at Purdue and added a solo homer at Charles Schwab Field at Creighton on Sunday.

Holt Leads BU in Hits
With just four games remaining on the schedule, Travis Holt is the odds-on favorite to lead Butler in the hit column this season. The talented shortstop heads into this week with 64 hits, 10 more than any of his teammates. In 2022, Holt has a team-high 12 doubles and four home runs.

Month of May
Dominic Milano is batting .294 during the month of May. He has also walked four times to raise his on-base percentage to .455.

All 52
Travis Holt and Ryan O'Halloran have started in all 52 games for Butler. These two players make up the left side of the infield for BU defensively.

One More
Aaron Steinhart needs one more home run to reach double figures for the Bulldogs. Butler has not had a student-athlete hit 10+ home runs in a season since 2019. That year, Harrison Freed hit 17 and Kyle Smith added 10.

Alright
Kollyn All came up with a season-high three hits in game two at Creighton. The BU catcher also stole his first base of the 2022 season.

Up Next
Butler will end the regular season with a three-game home series against Seton Hall. Games on Thursday and Friday will begin at 4 PM. The finale is slated to start at 1 PM on Saturday. All three contests will stream on FloSports.com/Butler+.
