Butler student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom based on the most recent Academic Progress Report (APR) data, released by the NCAA Tuesday, June 14. The Bulldogs had 11 of 18 programs earn perfect 1,000 APR scores for the 2020-21 academic year.
The Butler programs that earned a perfect APR score for the 2020-21 academic year are men's cross country, men's golf, men's soccer, men's tennis, men's track and field, women's cross country, women's golf, women's lacrosse, women's swimming, women's tennis, and women's track and field.
Six programs also earned special recognition for their perfect multi-year scores of 1,000 – men's tennis, women's cross country, women's golf, women's swimming, women's tennis, and women's track and field. To earn a perfect multi-year score, those programs recorded perfect APR scores during each of the last four years.
Butler's women's golf and women's tennis programs are among an exclusive list of approximately 60 teams nationally that have earned Public Recognition Awards in each year of the program.
The APR announcement comes on the heels of Butler's continued graduation success.
Butler posted a Graduation Success Rate of 93 percent in the most recent announcement by the NCAA, which came in December. Figures released reflect graduation numbers among student-athletes who entered college in 2014. The 93 percent mark is Butler's best annual percentage in the history of the GSR, which began with the cohort of student-athletes who entered college in 1998.
The public announcement of APRs returned after a one-year hiatus. This spring, the Division I Board of Directors approved the continual suspension of APR penalties for an additional year due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic; however, it supported the public release of the APR data.
Each academic year, every Division I sports team across the country calculates its APR using a simple and consistent formula. Each term, scholarship student-athletes can earn 1 point for remaining eligible and 1 point for staying in school or graduating. For schools that do not offer scholarships, recruited student-athletes are tracked. The Academic Performance Program has established an essential framework for academic excellence. The program provides measurable goals to ensure schools are fulfilling their commitment of equipping student-athletes with the tools and resources necessary to achieve academic success.
