Two student-athletes on the Butler women's soccer team have received recognition from the BIG EAST for their performances in wins over Western Michigan and No. 9 Michigan this past week. Redshirt-senior Katie Soderstrom was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, and redshirt-freshman Anna Pierce was selected BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week.
Soderstrom was key in Butler's two victories over the weekend, scoring one goal in each match, including the lone goal in a win at No. 9 Michigan. Her game-winner came in the 64th minute against the Wolverines and ultimately gave the Bulldogs the top-10 win. The forward tallied nine shots during opening weekend, six of which were on goal. Soderstrom's nine shots were second amongst BIG EAST players. She also added one assist against Western Michigan.
Pierce posted a 2-0-0 record last week, including a clean sheet at No. 9 Michigan and a shared 5-0 shutout against Western Michigan. The redshirt freshman had six saves in the Bulldogs' top-10 road win over Michigan, giving her seven on the week. Pierce is tied for first in the conference with a 1.000 save percentage. This is her first BIG EAST award.
The Bulldogs return to action Thursday, hosting Illinois.
