Cali, Colombia – Incoming freshman David Slapak ran a time of 8:11.55 in the 3000m on Wednesday morning at the World Athletics U20 Championships to qualify for the final race.

Slapak, a Liberek, Czech Republic native, finished eighth in the second of two heats to qualify for the final, which is scheduled for Friday at 5:04 p.m. local time (6:04 p.m. ET).

The fastest six times in each heat plus the next three fastest times advanced to the next round. Slapak was more than four seconds clear of the fastest time to not advance. Kenya's Edwin Kimosong Kisalsak led the field, clocking in at 7:55.60 in the second heat.

Slapak has a personal best time of 8:05.09 at the 3000m distance.
