The first person in Butler Athletics history to earn multiple All-America honors both academically and athletically, Andy Baker will be inducted into the Butler Hall of Fame Saturday night as a member of the Class of 2022.
 
Baker, a native of Minehead, U.K., came to Butler as a graduate student from Loughborough University where he graduated with highest honors (1^st Degree).
 
Baker's accomplishments as a Bulldog rank among the finest of any Butler student-athlete. After coming to running late, Baker's career took off when he arrived on campus in the fall of 2007.  Under first-year head coach Matt Roe, Baker handily won the Horizon League individual title and led the Bulldogs to a perfect score. He would go on to earn All-Great Lakes Region and All-America honors to cap off his 2007 season.
 
In his first winter season Baker was dominant. At the Horizon League Indoor Championships Baker won the Mile, 3000, 5000, and anchored the winning Distance Medley Relay team.  Baker's 32.5-point outburst remains one of the highest individual conference point totals by a distance runner in NCAA history.  
 
Baker parlayed his winter fitness into a breakout spring in 2008. At the famed Oregon Relays, Baker was second overall and the top collegian in the 5,000 meters, running a personal-best 13:49.87.  Baker would go on to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the 5,000 meters held at Drake University.
 
After repeating as Horizon League cross country champion and earning his second All-America award in the fall of 2008, Baker was poised for his biggest year in his final Butler campaign. In the fall of 2009, Baker came out of the gates hot, finishing one second off the win at the Notre Dame Invitational. At the NCAA Pre-National meet Baker set the NCAA on notice as one of the top individuals in the country. Baker's placed second behind Oregon's Luke Puskedra and ahead of future World Championship medalist Ryan Hill (NC State), among others in the elite field.  
 
Though an untimely illness would limit Baker's NCAA individual hopes, he still rallied to win his third consecutive Horizon League title and qualify for his third NCAA Championships, earning All-Great Lakes region honors for the third consecutive year along the way.
 
Known for his razor wit, his high intellect, and his athletic prowess, Baker was never one to put on airs. Beloved by his teammates, Baker's humility, caring nature, and tireless work ethic gained him popularity among his teammates and opponents. 
 
After graduating with his MBA with a 3.93 GPA, Baker was recruited to join One America in downtown Indianapolis.  Working at One America, Baker rose quickly in the company ascending to position of Director of Corporate Development. After a five-year stint at One America, Baker chose to pursue professional opportunities in his native England.  Baker currently holds the position of Director of European Insurance Equity Research for Citi Bank in London.
