@ButlerSwimming Opens 2022-23 Season with Double Dual Meet

FISHERS, Ind. –
The Butler swim team opened their season on Sunday by hosting the Double Dual at Fishers High School. Freshman Elizabeth Naylor was tabbed "Swimmer of the Meet" for her outstanding efforts in the 1000 Free, 500 Free, and 400 Free Relay.
 
"We raced well today for our first meet of the regular season," Head Coach Maurice Stewart said. "It was great to see our team focused on racing with high energy, team spirit and supporting each other from start to finish."
 
Naylor was a fifth-place finisher in the 1000 Free for Butler on Sunday. She touched the wall at 10:58.47 to lead all Bulldogs. Joining her in the event were teammates Cotter Welch and Olivia McKee. Welch finished eighth with a time of 11:07.97 and McKee took 11th (11:16.99).
 
Naylor and Welch joined Grace Crane by competing in the 500 Free. Crane paced the group with a seventh place finish (5:20.79) with Naylor coming in right behind her at eighth (5:21.00). Welch was not far behind to finish in 11th (5:24.48).
 
BU had two relay teams compete in the 400 Free Relay opening weekend. Alani Hightower-Bend, Jamie Gindorf, Emily Landwehr, and Abigail Roberts placed sixth by posting a time of 3:43.73. The second team featured Sophie Resner, Naylor, Gianna Leffler and Issy Petersen. That unit finished eighth with a time of 3:45.30.
 
Resner also stepped up for the Bulldogs in the 200 Fly. She finished 14th (2:28.83) while teammate Colleen Carey grabbed 15th (2:51.09).
 
Landwehr and Hightower-Bend highlighted the sprints for the Bulldogs. Hightower-Bend impressed in the 50 Free and 100 Free finishing third in both races with BIG EAST Qualifying times of 24.52 and 53.30 respectively. Landwehr also recorded BIG EAST qualifying times of 25.12 and 54.34 in the 50 Free and 100 Free, which placed her in ninth and fifth place.
 
Freshman Olivia McKee placed fifth with a 2:09.90 time in the 200 Back in her first meet at Butler. She and Leffler each finished in the Top-10 with BIG EAST Qualifying times.
 
Crane was another BU swimmer with a BIG EAST Qualifying time. She finished sixth in the 200 Free (1:59.24), while teammate Jamie Gindorf clocked in at 2:04.13 to finish 13th.
 
Crane joined Allie Carmichael and Sophie Guyer in the 200 IM. Carmichael was the top finisher in ninth (2:15.75) while Crane took 11th (2:16.14). Carmichael was also active for BU in the 200 Breast. She finished eighth with a time of 2:34.29.
 
The Bulldogs also got a lift from the 200 Medley Relay team that placed 11th overall. Leffler, Alexa Vota, Avery Piel and Gindorf made up the team that posted a time of 1:54.83.
