Official Press Release

Shay Fredrick was selected to class for the 20th annual "So You Want To Be A Coach" program.

Members are chosen by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) in partnership with WeCOACH. Qualified candidates must be in their final year of basketball eligibility at a four-year university or have graduated within the past year and must be nominated by their WBCA member.

Each participant will have the opportunity to attend the two-day workshop at the WBCA Convention from Mar. 29-31 in Dallas, Texas.

Frederick was nominated based on her academics, contributions to women's basketball on and off the court, professional resume and written recommendation from head coach Austin Parkinson

The "So" program was established to help players gain a better understanding and application of the skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women's basketball. The program also helps increase the awareness of crucial competencies for success in coaching, allows players to connect with coaches and administrators and shed light on the talent pool for players interested in coaching in the future.

"We are grateful to the WBCA leadership for offering this one-of-a-kind program for the past 20 years," said WeCOACH CEO Vanessa Fuchs. "Our partnership with the 'So' program is critical in advancing our mission to build the pipeline of women coaches and helping these young leaders launch into the coaching profession. We are thrilled to welcome the 2023 class to Dallas and offer them a first-class, memorable experience."

Frederick, a 5-7 grad transfer from Greenville, Wis, played at Valparaiso for four years before moving south to Indianapolis to compete for the Bulldogs. This season, she has started in 10 of 20 contests averaging 4.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists.
