@ButlerXCTF Sweep the Mile Races to Highlight the First Meet of the Year at the Illini Classic

Butler kicked off the New Year on Friday for the Illini Classic in Urbana-Champaign, Ill.
 
At the Armory Track and Floor, the meet featured athletes from two other teams, including the University of Illinois and Purdue-Fort Wayne.
 
The Bulldog women opened up the day placing 1-2-3 in the mile. Ashley Learn won the race in 5:09.80 while Elsa Rusthoven and Renate Toldo claimed the last two podium spots in 5:14.26 and 5:15.86. The times for Learn and Toldo were new lifetime bests.
 
In the 400-meter dash, Butler finished with three of their runners in the top four. Morgan Walsh led the way in second at 1:01.16. Abby Brennan and Jenna Doezema crossed the finish line next in third and fourth with times of 1:27.20 and 1:27.27.
 
Walsh followed up with another second-place finish in the 600 meters at 1:37.06. Reagan Kelly and Madison Provo placed fourth and fifth with times of 1:42.79 and 1:43.41.
 
For the 200-meter dash, Grace Stedge crossed the line in third at 27.45. Jade Cadichon and Katelyn Skinner finished side-by-side to tie for fourth place with a time of 27.57.
 
On the men's side, the Bulldogs placed first and third in the mile race. Andrew Taylor was first to cross the finish line at 4:20.26, and Michael Dunagan claimed third at 4:26.07.
 
Jimmy Davis finished fourth in the 400-meter dash at 53.22 and fifth in the 200-meter dash at 23.85. Michael Beros also set a new personal best in the 600 meters at 1:25.02 to place fifth.
 
On the field, Drew Herman matched his season-high in the high jump with a height of 2.00 meters (6' 6.75"). Herman's performance earned a third-place finish.
 
Next up for the Bulldogs will be on Jan. 13 and 14 where they will compete at the Rod McGravy Memorial in Lexington, KY.
