CHICAGO – DePaul led Butler from start to finish on Wednesday night to collect their 13th win of the season. Darrione Rogers and Aneesah Morrow combined for 46 points and Keke Rimmer joined them in double figures by adding 15. The 87-62 setback moves Butler to 7-17 on the season.
How It Happened
Rogers hit two 3-pointers for DePaul over the opening two minutes of the game to give the Blue Demons an early advantage. BU trailed DePaul by six at the first media timeout, but the Bulldogs would get hot from behind the arc to knot the score at 17-17.
Five different players were responsible for the first five 3-pointers of the game for BU. DePaul led 21-17 after the first 10 minutes and a 13-2 scoring run in the second quarter would give them a 14-point edge at halftime (44-30).
DePaul shot 54 percent in the first half and won the points in the paint battle 24-10 to keep their lead. The Blue Demons also outrebounded Butler 22-12.
Third quarter action was back and forth over the opening five minutes, but DePaul took care of business over the final five to win that stretch 18-10 and take a 22-point lead into the fourth (62-40). The final 10 minutes featured 47 points between the two teams. Each side shot over 50 percent from the field and the Bulldogs would add five more 3-pointers to take their game total to 13.
Stat of the Game
Butler and DePaul made 21 3-pointers on Wednesday night. BU shot 37 percent from long range (13-35) and DePaul finished the night at 53 percent (8-15).
