Jesse Hamlin placed seventh in the 3,000 meters on Saturday at the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships in Albuquerque, N.M.
The redshirt sophomore from Fort Wayne, Ind. posted a time of 8:01.22 in his first NCAA Track and Field Championship appearance.Â
Hamlin will receive first-team All-American honors to cap off his indoor season.
Oklahoma State's
Fouad Messaoudi took home the title in 7:48.10. He
outkicked Northern Arizona's Drew
Bosley, who held the fastest qualifying time of the field of 16 competitors, in the final straightaway to secure the 3K crown.Â

The race began to spread out early with Montana State's Duncan Hamilton leading the front of the pack. Hamlin would go on to pass Hamilton, who would cross the line in ninth.

Hamlin qualified for the event with the 15th-best time of 7:44.69 on Dec. 3 at the Boston University Sharon Colyear Danville Season Opener.

On Friday, Butler's
Barry Keane also placed 11th in the men's 5,000 meters at 14:10.13 to earn second-team All-American recognition.Â
As a team, the Bulldogs scored two points to finish 48th in the country.Â
